how would a strapless mermaid style dress?
I want a very fitted dress, lace-up back, strapless, mermaid style. i cannot really find a pattern and it is for a competition, it would be better if my own pattern I have. I would like to know where to begin the Rock, Flare and how much ease is necessary to the legs.
Flares on a mermaid or trumpet gown dress can either above the knee (usu. midway between. Taille and knee), knee, or in the middle (from knee to calf). I like the flares at the knee because it is neither too high or too low (a kind of resembles the dress). It also depends on the substance use .. i usually see stiffer materials such as taffeta at or above the knee to start, and start over with soft tissue movement on or below the knee .. It also depends on the style you are trying to portray. And again the level of ease you around the legs, depending on the fabric. Also to note, in my opinion to a higher flare is an illusion of a longer frame. Good luck!
